Homophila: human disease gene cognates in Drosophila
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although many human genes have been associated with genetic diseases, knowing which mutations result in disease phenotypes often does not explain the etiology of a specific disease. Drosophila melanogaster provides a powerful system in which to use genetic and molecular approaches to investigate human genetic diseases. Homophila is an intergenomic resource linking the human and fly genomes in order to stimulate functional genomic investigations in Drosophila that address questions about genetic disease in humans. Homophila provides a comprehensive linkage between the disease genes compiled in Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) and the complete Drosophila genomic sequence. Homophila is a relational database that allows searching based on human disease descriptions, OMIM number, human or fly gene names, and sequence similarity, and can be accessed at http://homophila.sdsc.edu.

A systematic analysis of human disease-associated gene sequences in Drosophila melanogaster.
We performed a systematic analysis of 929 human disease gene entries associated with at least one mutant allele in the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) database against the recently completed genome sequence of Drosophila melanogaster. The results of this search have been formatted as an updateable and searchable on-line database called Homophila. Our analysis identified 714 distinct ...
متن کاملResponse to Comment on “Tequila, a Neurotrypsin Ortholog, Regulates Long- Term Memory Formation in Drosophila”
We previously showed that Tequila (Teq), a neurotrypsin ortholog, regulates long-term memory formation in Drosophila (1). The orthology of Teq and neurotrypsin had been recognized by several online databases, including FlyBase, Homophila (Human disease to Drosophila gene database), Ensembl. Moreover, a previous comparison based on protein sequence and domain-organization comparisons (Online Mend...
متن کاملRab11 is required for maintenance of cell shape via βPS integrin mediated cell adhesion in Drosophila
In eukaryotes, vesicle trafficking is regulated by the small monomeric GTPases of the Rab protein family. Rab11, (a subfamily of the Ypt/Rab gene family) an evolutionarily conserved, ubiquitously expressed subfamily of small monomeric Rab GTPases, has been implicated in regulating vesicular trafficking through the recycling of endosomal compartment. In an earlier communication, we have shown th...
متن کاملalpha-Crystallin protein cognates in eggs of the moth, Plodia interpunctella: possible chaperones for the follicular epithelium yolk protein.
alpha-Crystallin protein cognates were found in germ cells of the Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Shirk and Zimowska, 1997). A cDNA clone of 674 bp with a single open reading frame was isolated for a 25,000 molecular weight polypeptide member of this family, alpha CP25, and a single transcript of approximately 700 bp was found in the ovary of vitellogenic females. Both the DNA sequence ...
متن کاملThe Drosophila Lissencephaly1 (DLis1) gene is required for nuclear migration.
Nuclear movement is critical for several developmental processes in eukaryotes. Drosophila oogenesis provides a paradigmatic example in which localization of the nucleus generates a source of cellular asymmetry that is used in patterning both the anterior-posterior and the dorsal-ventral axes of the oocyte. In this study we show that mutations in the Drosophila Lissencephaly1 (DLis1) gene resul...
